Have to keep pushing choke to run
As long as i keep pushing the choke the cart goes at a decent speed. As soon as i quit it slows down and spits and sputters. Does not matter how long how i drive it for. Any suggestions would help.

Re: Have to keep pushing choke to run
Looking forward to your answer, mine does the exact same thing until it gets warmed up good. I presume the carb needs cleaned. The guy I bought mine from said he just had it cleaned but didn't fix it.

Dirty Jets in the Carb. Pull it and clean it. It is running too lean without the choke.

Re: Have to keep pushing choke to run
What he said. Get some safety glasses, good carb cleaner and a bread twist tie stripped of the paper/plastic and start poking..
Or if you want to try the lazy mans way first, expose the intake to the carb, put it in neutral, get it running at speed and cover the intake with a rag for a few seconds and repeat. Yes it will flood it if held too long but may knock loose some trash in the carb. Part 1 is the better way.. |

Re: Have to keep pushing choke to run
You need to have an exploded view of your carb so you can see where all of the jets are. The main jet may be pointing down toward the float bowl.

Re: Have to keep pushing choke to run
You didn't say what year model your cart is. I have an '89 and had the same situation you describe. I replace the carburetor with a new one. Same problem. When I finally made the fuel line from inside the gas tank to the fuel pump airtight it solved my problem. If the fuel line is sucking air, it will not run properly. Choking it supplies more fuel to the carb. Hope this helps.

Make sure your air filter housing is together properly. I had one a few weeks ago, the clips at the bottom worked out of the slot. It suckked more air and threw off the air to fuel mixture.

Re: Have to keep pushing choke to run
Thanks for all the input. I have completey gone through and cleaned the carb. I will have to check the fuel line inside the tank. That is the only fuel line i have not replaced . It is a 96 model
