Question Need for more speed

In 2007 Sticky posted that adding speed was not necessarily a good thing. I agree but I still want just a little more speed. He suggests if I/we do this to buy a tachometer.

Apparently, RPMs are factory set at about 2,700, and probably should stay under 4,600. I fully intend to stay under 4,000, and for that I want to add a tach.

My problem is I can't find one that isn't less than $300 or so. (I don't trust one that you just wrap a cable around the spark plug wire.)

Can anyone give suggestions as to where to find one and how much can I expect to pay for one?

Thanks to all.

either a tiny tach or equus 8068 (i think thats the model) has to have inductive pick up from the spark plug wire. regular coil hook up tachs dont work. tiny tach is about $40 depending on where u get it. equus is $100ish but well worth the extra money. tiny tach is digital and slow to respond i hear, plus it looks like a science fair project i think. equus is the way to go

tiny tachs are better now, they respond faster than they used to. since I unhooked my rpm limiter and zip tied gov. spring I depend on mine.even if you get an equus, you still have to wrap a wire around thespark plug wire.
