update on ezgo engine
update the engine has 30 psi for compression not good at all ,took it apart and found the lower gasket to be almost gone (the one between the cylinder block and the crankcase block) no burns on the pistons or marks on the piston walls it looks pretty good shape. the rings are clear and not broken and not burnt. would this gasket cause this to loose this much compression , is it time for a top end overhaul?
thanks brad |

Re: update on ezgo engine
Those gaskets aren't much more than thick paper anyway , and yes it can affect the engine pressure a lot , I have rebuilt 3 of the 244;s this year and cut my own gaskets for cylinder bottoms because of how much trouble I have had getting the rings in and keeping it aligned , seemed that everytime I got it just right I was looking at a torn gasket .
if you already have it torn down , I would at least hoan it out and do rings . |

Re: update on ezgo engine
make sure you check the rod bearings while you are at it.

Re: update on ezgo engine
this little engine seems to be getting worse, while checking out the piston connecting rod we found a little and i mean little play in the crank shaft right behind the flywheel i dont know anymore this is really starting to get real discouraging, its starting to drive me nuts.... i suppose its time for a complete rebuild?

Re: update on ezgo engine
We'll need to find the specs for wear limits and take some measurements.
The ring end gap will tell if you need rings. There is a piston/ cylinder clearance that will tell if your piston is worn out. The crankshaft will move from side to side slightly. There is spec for it too. The lower rod bearing will move slightly sideways but shouldn't go up and down on the journal where the bearing would run. The specs are on the home page under EZGO GAS TECH. The manuals are there and all the measurements should be described and can be checked with feeler guage. 30 psi is bad. I think you should have more compression, even with a bad base gasket. Check the wear limits, that'll answer your questions. HOPE THAT HELPS. |
