Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
ok got brushes. fyi volkswagon bruhes are very close and can be filed to fit. and are $3 apiece. got starter in and ill be danged if it didnt start after a bit to get the fuel flowing. and boy does it smoke!!!! i got it warm and adjusted valves and cleaned spark plugs and it cleared up a little. in neutral it is slow to respond bu will get on up into rpms but in drive it did great til i hit a hill and it stalled and i cant gt it go more than like 4 mph now! whats wrong. now it barely goes forward and cant climb the ramp into my shop without help. any ideas appreciated.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
Butting in here you have good help here. If the engine is running good you now look at the belt and clutches. If worn the belt will steal low end pull, check the width and length, use a seamstress tape to get the length. Worn or streched it will ride high in the drive clutch.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
i actually think it is more of the engine because even in neutral it struggles to build rpm.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
JUst try the carb linkage by hand and be sure it didn't break ? Operate it from each end to see if you are getting full throttle

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
check sponsors for a seat. I would double check the valves and if you used a feeler guage maybe try the 1/4 turn out method that is described in the tech thread. It took me a few tries to get it just right. I would then focus on the carb....if you cant get it clean and adjusted, go ahead and replace it. I did and it made a huge performance difference.
