I put on new drive clutch and the belt is not going to the top by 1/2 inch so tomorrow I will try to run it a bit and see if the lube helped. I hate taking it apart.

Does the Picture on page 2 look correct?
Yes it does, just not "compressed enough".

Somewhere there is a thread that states, "that there should be about 1/4 to 3/8" of thread on the outside of the nut, on the secondary clutch, if it is tightened properly." And it may be Smallblock that typed it. Thats a rough estimate only.

Thats where mine is, (and mines working good, at the moment...) haha!

Just went back and looked at picture page 2, and I'm wondering if the spacer is to far on the input shaft? Shouldn't he, be able to see an 1/8" of the shaft or so before, it goes into the case?

OK I think that the lack of lube was the problem.

Recap... My grease gun was not pumping and I did not know it so the only grease on the sheave was when I put a little on when I put the power spring on. I fixed my gun and put in 3 squirts. It has been fine sense. It shifts smooth and is back up to 25 mph. I plan on taking it apart this Sunday checking everything out.

For the record the outer sheave was not moving. If I power braked it it slipped on the drive not driven and it was not slipping when we were going up the mountain.

OK I took the driven clutch and it was all fine. The spacer was lined up with the grove in the shaft. Tom at CPP had never heard of one with my symptoms either. The belt still does not come all the way to the top of the Comet 72C drive clutch. It is about 1/4" short of going all the way to the top.
