Pops the rod caps off and take a quick look.. Like mule said, you might can salvage this engine if rebuilding is something youd want to do..

I have heard that polishin the crank after a blowup will leave the fresh rebuild with a knock as the toleraces aren't as close is this true?

Well, it really depends on the sanding. Like mule said, use a very fine emery cloth. Kinda like wet sanding. You just want to lightly polish. If the crank cleans up good with the acid it might be worth a shot. The cranks are kinda pricy but yours might be unrepairable. It's a call you will have to make since your lookin at it. Your new main bearings will probably be tight enough to close up on the shaft but you could always put it together and chech it out before a test run. Good Luck!!

A good machineshop can grind the cranck and than also see if its bent.
If not, build in some bearings.
Only the bearings for two rods will cost about $ 60,--

Grinding and measuring the cranck , one new rod and two bearings did cost me $ 220,--'

With bearings you won't have the same problems anymore.
For pics about the bearings see my album.
