As long as you have one that you can select a single cylinder, you should be good. How do you intend to connect it?

Yes, a "regular tach" that has a setting for 1 cylinder. Any other "regular tach" that does not have a setting for 1 cylinder will not work.

Since this is a golf cart forum, I'm guessing these would be considered "regular"?

Here's one on E-Bay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tacho...motiveQ5fTools

I bought one of these (not from this seller but it looks the same). It's similar to a "Tiny-Tach" but less expensive. Really easy to install and set-up, (only two wires). One wire wraps around spark plug wire and the other wire connects to ground. No connection to battery required !! It works fine for me. Response to rpm change is a little slow, but it settles down once you're at speed. Good luck and let us know what you settled on. RAY

I just bought this same tach and am having issues setting it up. I set it up on the "2" setting, which according to the instructions is one fire per RPM. it's saying im pushing 4000 rpms at just above stock governed? Any thoughts?

One (1) spark per revolution is the correct setting. I got 3300 RPM on my G-16 cart before screwing down the governor. Depending on where your governor screw is adjusted, I suppose 4000 RPM is possible. Others may be able to comment on this also. - RAY

That may not be un-reasonable. I think the stock settings (governed) is between 32 and 3500.
I'm not entirely sure, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong
