First check all wire connections to it, very common to have dirty connection issues. Second it may only need new brushes inside. Those generator/starters are very expensive to buy but do not go bad very often.

Ya my hubbie is going to the local golf parts store to buy new brushes ($28 cheap). So we will tear it down and switch them tonight. Hopefully it's not too complicated or we're screwed! I'll let you all know if it works, thanks again and I know I'll be posting more questions.

While ya'll are in it some real fine sandpaper or emory cloth will clean up the brush contact area.

When a solenoid clicks fast like that, it is an indication of low power, typically a bad connection or weak battery. If you have cleaned all the connections and tried charging the battery, maybe the battery is no good and not holding a charge. Have it tested at an autoparts store.

The battery is fully charged, we may have crossed some wires when we reinstalled the starter back on. And it wants to go forward in reverse?? Try and reconnect the wires tonight. Would that cause it not to go?

We got it to run really good last night!! The whole problem was the starter/generator had been turned a bit when we placed it back on after changing the brushes, so it was turned slightly. He turned it back into position and re connected everything to it. Runs great now! So happy it was an easy fix.
