G1 Tires
I just bought a 85 G1, just starting to get into the fun! I am looking to replace the tires on the cart, but not necesarilly lift it or change the wheels.
It has 18x8.5x8 tires on it right now, which it sounds like are stock. I was curious as to what my options are for tires if i want to keep those wheels. Can I go with a 20" tire? What size of tires would you recomend for those stock wheels? |

Re: G1 Tires
You can run 20 lawn tires, not sure on 20" atv they might not fit. You can run 20x8 lawn, might fit x10 wide on it but a G9 rubs the front shock without a spacer on the lugs. There are knobby 18s for gokarts you can run.
22 atv tires is the way to go, they are much more resistant to puncture and way larger selection. Its a little more but the lift and tires are not that much more, and offset wheels make the cart more stable as well as fit larger atv tires so they don't rub. I'd tell you to save your pennies and go that way, though some get the 20" (atv type) cheapest lift and are happy. Most yamaha you have to move the a-arms forward to fit 22s and that is the difference in lifts for a 20 or 22 tire lift. |

Re: G1 Tires
I have 18x9.50x8 atv tires on my 83 G1. Even though my cart is lifted 2 inches they would have fit without the lift.

Re: G1 Tires
Will 18x9.5x8 tires work on the stock rims? I dont know much about tires, didnt know if the extra 1" width would work on those rims.

Re: G1 Tires
I did a G9 that is very similar with 20x10-8 on rear and 20x8-8 front lawn tires, the atv tires you can roughly figure the next size larger because the tread sticks out more. So sure 18 atv tires would fit just about any size under 10 wide and maybe 10 wide would fit if the knobs/etc did not sick out the sides of the tire a lot. ATV tires are not exactly the size, some stick out the sides some don't

Re: G1 Tires
Field6565, I am thinking of following your lead and going with 18x9.5x8 tires on my G1. Can you post a picture of what yours looks like??

Re: G1 Tires
I've also seen people run these knobbies from gokarts. I don't know cost. The photo is not good the tire is flat they are more rounded.

Re: G1 Tires
I kinda like the look of the G1 without the front bumper, good idea.
