i think my cart must be cursed in any case, the new inverter should tell the story on the 12v side of things and if the solenoid swap doesn't get the cart to move i guess i'll keep guessing on that one.

Hey! I think I'm getting somewhere. I replaced the solenoid and it didn't help anything; however the old one was old & corroded and for $30 i'd rather have a brand new one anyway.

in any case, this wire was hidden before; when i swapped it i knew in my heart immediately it wasn't going to work. looks like this wire has been fried for a long time. it disintegrated in my hand. does anyone know what this is called or how i order this?

Could this cause the cart to not start?

i have a 2014 EZGO TXT Fleet 48v electric cart.

That would be your "precharge" resistor. It puts voltage to the controller when the solenoid is open to charge up the capacitors in there. It will fry if your solenoid doesn't close properly when you try to run the cart. That's probably what happened to it.

would it being fried be why the cart doesn't move? i'm guessing the solenoid needed replacing anyway but would this being toast cause the cart not to respond to the new batteries? i'm running out of things to replace so I'm hoping this is the cause.

i'm asking because i swapped the new solenoid out and still nothing.

I don't know if your particular controller won't run with the precharge resistor fried or not.

Can you get the resistance value off the resistor or is it to badly burnt?

Does that resistor get get hot with cart in run without the pedal being pressed? If it does, that is usually a short in the controller causing a higher current draw through that resistor. More than it can handle, which is why it gets hot. Or could have gotten hot like was said earlier when the solenoid didn't close, and all the current the controller was demanding is trying to flow through that resistor causing the same thing. They are usually pretty tuff. I've seen them so hot they were smoking, and still maintain their resistance. Check it with ohm meter, but my guess based on what you have said is the controller is fried.

I think you're right. The new resistor went on and still nothing. I touched the solenoid and it burned my hand so I killed the batteries before they did any further damage. So what now? I have to buy a whole new DMC? **** this just keeps getting worse.
