Yamaha G1 project with questions.
Trying to get my G1 up and going. So far ive swapped out the bad starter for a used one and did some electrical work(more to come). Afterwords I did a compression test and to my surprise shes got 120 psi and the spark looks good!
Someone removed the factory vacuum fuel pump and installed an electric deal. Ive ordered a good vaccum fuel pump and basic tune parts along with a set of crank seals. How does the stock pump hook up and where does it get its pulse(vacuum) signal? is there a separate seal for the oil pump I need to get? I do have a factory service manual but to me its not the best. There is a total of 4 pages for the fuel system. I think the oil injection system was disabled as there is 2 small lines with screws in them. See the middle picture with one hose in my fingers and the other leaning against the air cleaner. Also there is a clear fuel filter and the fuel looks blue like theres oil in it. The oil tank is there and the line goes to the pump though. Any suggestions on handling this? Does this engine have a crank case oil supply for the bottom end? Has anyone pressure washed their engine bay and what steps did you take to keep water from getting in areas it shouldn't. G1 is two stroke the oil comes from the fuel, no oil in engine. IIRC the pulse for the pump runs off the crank case someplace, maybe under the carb? Some disconnected the oil injection for fear it would fail, or it did fail. Should be able to wash it all you want except for the solenoids on the rear wheel well for forward and reverse try to not hit them with water pressure, its a pair and the cables go to the generator/starter. Upper left in your first photo. G1 are old but great carts built like tanks and they can go pretty fast.

Thanks for the reply. Some 2 strokes do have oil in the crank case although usually not much. I couldn't find any type of plug and like I said the service manual seems to be lacking so I thought id ask.
I found a picture of a g1 with the pump mounted to a bracket at the rear cross member but its hard to tell where they hooked in for vacuum. I may just leave the oil pump disconnected and use the tank as a reserve tank or something. |

Pulse line is in the block, I would guess under the carb or maybe under the exhaust port I do not remember exactly, but should be a fitting for hose sticking out below the cylinder. IIRC the lines were not on the exhaust side they were on the carb back side. I'm not sure how you test the oil pump, you only need to run 100:1 oil in the fuel for these they don't take much.

This evening I'll be doing the complete opposite of you and will be replacing my vacuum pump with an electric. If you can wait until then I'll take a pic of where that vacuum line goes to.
If you are planning on trying to restore your automatic oiler there is one thing to consider. Most people disabled them and manually mixing the gas with the reason being that those automatic jobs were awfully unpredictable and led to different oil ratios (or flat our fails) given a cart's vacuum system. Just something to consider. I think sho mentioned it but I wouldn't hit that cart with a pressure washer. I do mine with low flow coming out of a garden hose while brushing the non-electrical stuff with a household brush. |

Yes Lochlin that would be great! I wont be getting my fuel pump till the end of the week so no hurry there.
I think I may leave the auto oiler disconnected and use the tank as a reserve fuel tank or something. Can the oiler be remove do you know? thank you both for the responses. mike |

Ok here you go:
Pic #1 is taken from the passenger side of the cart looking down at where the pump is mounted beneath the carb. This side is easy. The top line of the pump goes to the carb and the bottom line goes to the gas tank. Pic #2 is taken from the drivers side looking down at the pump. There is a vacuum line coming from the back of it. It routes to one of two nipples located directly beneath the plastic box with "Yamaha" printed on it located to the front of the carb. This box is in Pic #3. On my cart the vacuum line coming from the back of the fuel pump is connected to driver's nipple beneath the box. To be honest, the passenger side nipple appears to be for the oiler's vacuum line so it probably doesn't matter which one you connect to though as they each go the same place. I suppose there could be a difference in the size of the nipples / lines which is why I mention it. My oiler was disconnected when I got it so I am not sure how exactly to take it off. Hopefully someone else will chime in with that. |

Thanks for the pics Lochlin.
Got the new Yamaha fuel pump installed along with new crank seals. As you can see they where shot. I was told the cart was hard to start and I'm sure this was a major factor. Thanks to the write ups here it wasn't a bad job except for three things. 1. coil side had been leaking awhile and I had hours cleaning up the mess. 2. I wish I would have known the clutch needed to come off to replace the belt or I would have had it here. Napa had the starter belt but couldn't get the drive belt and its going to be 2 days for advance auto to get the drive belt, a HP2016. 3. the cart had a lift on it and I had to jack it up, remove the rear shocks and drop the swing arm down to clear the frame. Other than that not bad I replaced the carb with a cheap unit from e-bay which may bite me but my throttle shafts had some slop. Also bought a clutch tool from e-bay and paid more for a made in the USA tool...I doubt it could be used much more than a few times as the head was easily bent after a few whacks with a hammer (instructions stated to do and I would recommend anyway) so it was hard to get a socket back on it after that. The oil injection pump was bypassed (no vacuum so a electric fuel pump was added LOL) so I removed the pump and gear assembly and just made a block off plate for it. On a side note is the differential supposed to have a breather tube hooked to the Oil injector supply tank? |

On a side note is the differential supposed to have a breather tube hooked to the Oil injector supply tank?
