Installing New Lights On A 2001 EZGO
Well....I'm knee deep in to my first golf cart project. I recently picked up a 2001 EZGO TXT gasser, and I need to install head lights. The cart came with a single headlight, that was wired up to turn on when the cart was started and the motor running. Once the motor quits the light goes off.
The light that came with the cart runs a single wire, and it's not grounded. I've purchased two new 4" head light that run two wires, hot and ground. When I hook up these lights to the same lead that the original light was wired to....I don't get any light. I did run a ground wire from the lights to the frame, and when I put a volt meter in the hot lead I'm getting 12+ volts. Anyone have any idea of why these lights won't fire up? |

do not ground anything to the frame, run your ground back to the battery.

Why not just add a relay and a switch and run the hot right off the battery?

It is okay to run a frame ground on a gas cart just like your car
Connect one wire from the lights ( black) the power and the other (white) to the frame.... they should work. If not verufy you have power to the light with a 12v test light or voltmeter. |

Thanks for the advice scotty, and what you described is what I did. But for whatever reason the lights won't go on. I'll give it another shot this weekend.

Just about any 5 pin 12V relay will do. Should be availible at your local parts store.

So I picked up a relay...now what do I do with it?? LOL I'm assuming one of the leads is for power, one for ground, one for a switch, and one each for the lights??
