Could it be a carb gasket leaking making it suck air? you know between the haed and the carb. When you have it running on jackstands you could spray some either around it and see if the engine speeds up if it does then you have a leak.Just a thought.

but that doesnt sound like a major loss of power hes talking about after it get warm, or having it under a load. he says only when its driving on the ground. im not saying your wrong, bt i would think with the leaking carb isues it wold be hard to keep it at a low speeds or even get it running .

If you cannot repeat the power loss symptom with the cart off the ground, I figure that an engine fault is probably safely eliminated and the issue lies within the driven components. If possible I would drive the unit around as close as possible to a suitable jack (hell, carry one around if necessary) untill it bogs down again, get it jacked up toot sweet and check out the rear axle, brakes and clutch etc. Considering the amount of friction required to slow the cart down to the point of stopping something has to be getting pretty hot, maybe you will be able to find the culprit by touch alone.

Back to the muffler, I don't think you can simulate the volume of air the engine pumps with an air compressor. It may have a loose baffle that deflects when hot. Just thinnen.
