G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
Hello again,
I posted yesterday looking for a good place to find parts if I need them, and I got some good advice. The 1993 G9 that I bought would only run on choke, and the motor oil smelled like gas. I got a chance to look closer at it today and holy crap! The air box intake, carburator, and motor were completely filled with gas. When I pulled the dipstick, gas came pouring out of there too. It sounds like a stuck float is the cause, but will that much fuel be introduced into the motor? The carburator looked fairly clean, and there was no major restriction when moving the float by hand. I am in no means a carb expert, and I plan to have a pro take a look at it for me. Is there anything else that I might look for that would cause this rediculious flooding? Any help is appreciated. |

Re: G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
The fuel pump can also allow gas to enter the crankcase

Re: G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
As Tom said, if the diaphrams (in the pump) get holes/tears in them, it's possible it can feed back into the crankcase thru the pulsar line. Try cleaning the carb, take the spark plug out, put a rag over the hole (and hold it!) crank the ingine over to get the gas out of the cylinder/drain oil/gas and replace with 1 qt oil. Clean airbox and replace air and pre filter (make shure the straps hold the lid tight, that will help with the "choke" problem...useally). Buy a high quality in line fuel filter and install on the fuel line between the fuel pump and carb. Try it and watch the oil level, if gas comes back, rebuild the fuel pump or replace it. Good luck on your new toy.

Make sure the lines from the fuel pump are going where they are suposed to. I accidentally swapped mine and when the engine spun over it pumped gas into the crankcase

Re: G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
I had the carb cleaned and gone through today by a local small engune guy. Reinstalled eveything and it ran for a few minutes then flooded again. It doesn't seem to have fuel in the crankcase now, but the carb and airbox intake line are full again. I just pulled the carb and fuel pump to get them rebuilt. If the lines were crossed, would the motor run at all? I will keep you all posted to see if the carb + pump rebuild works.

Re: G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
I don`t think it would run. Sounds like it is the float needle and seat.

Re: G9 Engine Full of GAS!!
I just dropped the carb and fuel pump off at a different local small engine guy. He told me that I need a float needle and seat. This guy is the real deal, but he is always too busy. (He has a full time job and works on the side out of his house.) I feel a lot more comfortable now. Sounds like you guys really know your stuff. I will keep you updated when I get everything back.
Thanks for all the help. I will be asking for more shortly! |
