What can or needs to be done or rebuilt or check or cleaned... etc. I have an 04 FE290 and with rev limiter connected it hits about 12mph. with out its about 16mph... changing the belt this week... governor cable replaced.. oil, spark plug, all replaced... supposedly adjusted to the best this place could do.. What does anyone think?? am I missing something?

Like lockman said, check the drive clutch. That sounds like the problem. may need to rebuild it. i had the same problem and that's what it was.

Put it in maintenace mode and see the clutch closes all the way to the top. if it does its not your problem

When you say closes all the way to top you mean the belt goesall the way up?? if so my belt first only goes up to about an inch down from top... and thats with the rev limiter disconnected....i am replacing belt first though and seeing.. anything else you suggest?

sounds like your weights in the clutch are wore. it should go to the top. it'll will hit the rev limiter faster and give you lower speeds when its not opening all the way. but if your belt is very wore it wouldn't help either

All jokes aside, given the average at best braking capabilities of a CC and steering that is more vague than an octogenarian Cadillac driver heading for the post office on pension day it's verging on downright dangerous. Tom has to be the only person I know who preaches "keeping it stock" while all the time he's thundering around PA at 25 mph
