Default Re: Engine Locked up, etc

I think we are missing something here. No mention was made that if the splasher was broken, there would be engine damage. If the splasher isn't broken then I would suspect that perhaps a piece of metal debris, possibly from the reason the engine was rebuilt before you got it, is binding in somewhere in between the crank, balancer and cam gears. This is just a guess from the info given. If the engine runs fine now, there must not be any mechanical damage. I would drain the oil into a clean container and look very closely for metal debris. Inserting a telescopic magnet into the drain plug hole wouldn't hurt either....

Default Re: Engine Locked up, etc

All I can go by is what Im being told. The engine was supposedly torn down completely and cleaned and reassembled with whatever parts, I cant remember now, but I had a reciept, or a copy of one, that was dated like 2 weeks prior to this cart being purchased. I had nothing to do with the purchase, this was done by my inlaws for my children. This receipt had a charge for block cleaning. I have no idea that this work was actually done, but based on the outside appaerance of the engine, and the reputation of the gentleman it was purchased from, this work was done. I was also told, by several people, that the oil splasher is prone to breaking if its ran at high RPMs for extended periods of time, which it was. (Hey I have 2 kids, tell them to slow down? Right!) In fact, after talking with the guy who did this recent work, he was expecting to be broken, I suspect like the one in the picture shown, and has gotten deformed enough to hit the bottom of the engine and cause it to lock up. It was not, in fact it looked very good inside this block.
