For me... because it looks cool!
but, also... for using larger tires for ground clearance when off road trail riding. and... because it looks cool! |

Re: New Guy w/another dumb question
Easier to roll possibly but yes you gain speed with larger tires. As well as looks MUCH better and gives you more options when it comes to off road fun.

Re: New Guy w/another dumb question
I installed a 3" lift and 20.5" tires on my street only cart for several reasons...
1. I needed the extra clearance when loading the cart in back of my truck. Using my ramps, it would hang on the tailgate prior to the lift. 2. I like the way it looks. I kept it at 3" to help avoid roll over. 3. To gain a little extra speed Now the negatives... 1. It does not handle quite as well as before the lift. It is a little more "squirrely" 2. It lengthened my turn radius, so it does not turn as sharp. With that being said... I would do it again. |

Re: New Guy w/another dumb question
Your question is similar to asking why guys lift their pickup trucks.
The lift allows use of bigger tires. Bigger tires come with pluses and minuses. Plus side is bigger tires (proper inflated) smooth out the ruts and bumps on the trail and they will roll over bigger obstacles. The minus side is poor handling at higher speeds. Loss of torque. Higher center of gravity |

Re: New Guy w/another dumb question
Well said Scotty - the analogy to pickup trucks is dead on. Majority of people lift the cart for the look of it. Yes the bigger tires add a little speed but that wouldn't be the primary reason to do it for most people - there are other ways to add speed. Some want better clearance, some actually off-road their carts - but those reasons are still in the minority. They are easier to roll over when lifted but are still plenty stable. My son rolled mine on it's side a few months ago but he was doing something stupid that would have most likely rolled a stock cart on its side. The handling trade-offs are not bad - again probably similar to taking a stock pickup, lifting it up and putting bigger tires on.
I'm starting to shop for a new cart since I recently parked my RV on a permanent lot and my son stays gone on my cart 90% of the time. I need another one to get around on. I will most likely leave it at stock height (unless I just happen to find a deal on one that happens to already be lifted) just to have 1 of each. Properly modded and lifted carts are very sharp looking, but I've seen equally sharp looking carts that have never been lifted. |

Re: New Guy w/another dumb question
I did a small 3 inch lift on my cruiser because I got tired of my foot hitting the ground when I swung it
