Batteries normally use a 2 digit code and are duplicated every decade, so E3 would mean may 03 or may 13 and since we are in the second decade and you said no way they can be 03's. Also pretty sure the x =10 since that is the roman numeral for 10. I think you got a good deal.

How did you go mate did they work well? 6.05V means they were 50% charged when you picked them up which prob isnt good as the sulfation process would have begun pretty bad if they were sitting, But your the only one who knows if it was a good buy. So please enlighten us was it a great find or someone who will do anything for a buck?
