Club Car precedent problem with idle
Dear members
I have a 05 club car precedent. I am having trouble with the acceleration. The cart will just take off when gas pedal is pressed. It takes off pretty quick. While driving I am able to adjust speed with the pedal. Main problem is it will not idle when starting down on the pedal. Please help I have tried a lot. New throttle cable. ????? |

I would start with the clutches. Post a pic of both, they may be not releasing all the way.

Re: Club Car precedent problem with idle
Thanks for the support. I was going to start with a new govenor/carb cable. due to it is doing some deiseling. I was thinking that the carb was not pulling all the way closed??? It will also after warming up, when i come to a complete stop it will take off backwards for a foot or two. Maybe i shouldnt have said it takes off that fast, I use it in the woods for hunting and i cant keep a steady speed. I have to keep letting off and on the pedal. Its a constant jerking around. It has always been this way since i bought it. My kids ride it as well and I want that slow start off so it doesnt jerk around so much. I rode a friends at the camp over the weekend and when pressing on his pedal it will just idle and when you ease into it it will slowly take off. After riding his now i know how bad the prob is. Any and all advice is accepted and appreciated. Thanks

Re: Club Car precedent problem with idle
Do you have a upgraded 200rpm drive clutch spring installed? I installed that spring, and that was what happened to my 04 precedent. It allowed the motor to rev up just a bit, and then the clutch would engage causing the cart to jerk forward. I changed it back to stock. I have done alot of Mods to my cart, from removing the governor, re-routing the throttle cable directly to the carb bypassing the governor cable( much better throttle response than stock ) removing the engine kill switch on the pedal module, to having my clutches Machined and a torque clutch installed with a new severe duty belt. Re: Club Car precedent problem with idle
thanks for the info twist. I adjusted the new throttle cable and installed a new govenor cable as weel and tweeked both of those. I also installed 2 new belts. Somewhere in there the problem was fixed. I think the throttle cable was too tight not leeting the throttle shut off comepletely. Do you get a lot better torque out of your clutch now?
