Steering play
Okay, I just got a 99 workhorse and I love it. I do have a question about tightening up the steering as there is a lot of play in it. I can turn the wheel a couple of inches it seems before it actually turns. Any suggestions or links to a fix would be appreciated.

Re: Steering play
First you need to find out where the play is coming from , rock the steering wheel while looking at the operating parts ( tie rod ends &ect ) replace whatever don't move until late ,, may have to jack it up to see the moving parts , be sure to use jack stands if you have to get under it .

Re: Steering play
Having problems with your workhorse essness?
If so, it's a different steering setup than on Matt's cart |

Re: Steering play
He he, Yep! I dont like all the play in the steering. I can see that it's loose up by the steering gear (big nut with zerk on top) it actually twists where the tie rods connect? I figure I'll have to take it out and replace a couple parts, just looking for which one's.
I thought 94 thru 01 would be the same? Thanks Ruredy! |

The new setup doesn't suffer from the problems like the older one does. Look in the workhorse service parts manual page T-1, that'll show you the break down and give you the part number for the big bushing/bearing thing I believe your talking about. |

Re: Steering play
Thanks Jon,
In your expirience, is it just #5 on this illustration? Or are there other parts I should count on replacing? It's interesting you bring up the bed. We ended up buying 3 of them from a local dealer. 1, 1996 and 2, 1997's (the neighbors have the other one's.) But they all had the same bed? |

If I would have thought a little about that bed I would have known it didn't come on that cart. The MPT models are like non lifted ST carts with the truck looking front end. ezgo didn't even make those type of beds till 03 |
