Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Hello, I am a newbie to the forum and to golf cart repair.
Have a 2002 club car and just replaced 6 batteries. Put new batteries in, hooked charger up and amp meter on front of charger does not move from 0. Gauge on cart dashboard moved all the way to the right and battery light went off for 30 seconds. Gauge then went all the way back to the left and now battery light comes off and on every few seconds. Tested battery charger on other golf cart and works fine. Need help-thanks |

Re: Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Welcome
Double check your wiring. If it worked before and all you did was change batteries its a wrong connection. Are you sure you put in the right batteries? Sounds like a dumb question but it happens. |

Re: Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Ok-dumb question, but how do I know if I have the wrong batteries? What do I need to check for?
I'm off to double check my wiring right now. Thanks for the quick response. |

Welcome to the forum tucsongolfer.................
Count the battery filler holes on the batteries. If there are 3 holes per battery, you have 6 volt batteries. If you have 4 filler caps, you have 8 volt batteries. Your cart uses 8 volt batteries..... should have 4 filler holes. |

Re: Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Um if this is a 48 volt club car I think they use 12 volt batteries which would be 6 cells per battery.
Assuming the batteries are the right voltage, it has to be your wiring, or maybe a blown fuse. |

Re: Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Where did you get your batteries? And what batteries did you purchase? I can't tell you how many times I get a cart owners cart in our shop where they took their 8 volts in and mistakenly purchased 6 volts...

Re: Changed batteries/batteries won't charge
Just wanted to express my gratitude. I had checked everything else on that golf cart, but it honestly would never have occured to me I had the wrong batteries. Well, now I have the right batteries and amazing enough the thing works like a charm. Who knew? Thank you.
