Default 1993 EZGO Marathon issues

I recently bought a 1993 EZGO Marathon, it seemed to do fine on flat ground but almost dies on a hill. I did see that the battery cable are really corroded and the terminals are very dirty. Could this be the issue? Also I only had it on the charger for about 4 hours. Also what role does the resistor play in a golf cart?

clean ALL corrosion from connections then get a digital DVM...after you give the cart a corrosion tune up-give er a full charge...12v hrs after charge you should have over 38 volts(38.4 is average)if you have a healthy pack and charger...

If it is a 36v cart then Mutant is correct. If you have a 48v cart expect 50.7v or so for a full charge.

Take a picture of the wires before you begin the cleaning process, or clean one, replace it, clean the next. This way you won't get them back on in the wrong sequence.

It may *also* be weak batteries but the corrosion is a problem to start with.

I measured the voltage of each battery, and they were at 6 volts or more after couple hours of charge, but I didn't measure them as a set.

I need somewhere to learn about golf cart parts.

Thanks for your responses.

6.37 volts is the average full-6.03 is 50% State OF Charge(SOC)below 50% soc and you are doing permanent damage...

Be sure to go to

http://www.cartsunlimited.net

because .com redirects elsewhere and is not the same company.

Thanks for the info.
one other thing I wanted to address was cleaning the other components. I lifted the covers off the controller etc. and it was very dirty. Can i just use contact cleaner?
