Proper clutch ajustment
Ok I'll ask. I understand how the clutch works and all. But i don't get the 120 deg of preload on the spring. The shieves move. We'll one moves and that's the one that the ramp works with. So i can rotate the ramp with the spring and it moves back. I checked this on the clutch on my cart and i can move it back and forth probably 90 degs. Yes I did just take it apart and put the 28 deg ramp and new buttons in it. I'm not noticing any real difference from the 36 deg and wondering if I'm missing something here. I've read lots of post here about how noticeably the 28 deg is. I'm just not seeing/feeling it.

Re: Proper clutch ajustment
If you have an aftermarket spring you can't "preload" it. the stock spring will have the ends bent so that they fit into the little holes, there is one hole on one side and three holes on the other. use the spring in the middle hole and turn 120deg then assemble. If you running a shorter belt (my guess is) effects will be minimal.

Re: Proper clutch ajustment
I have a stock length belt. I am using a stock spring.I have it in the suggested holes. Just not seeing/feeling any real difference driving on flat ground and roads. That why I wondered if I didn't do something right..........
After reading lots of related post on ramps and shorter belts. I decided to go this way for what i use my cart for. I did not like the hard shifting post from shorter belts and the price was right on these parts. Plus i have a fairly new HD belt. ????????? It does not appear that you can get the ramp in wrong with a stock spring. Can you???? I buy this used, so now i wonder if my spring is messed up. The ends are phased out some how????? Is this possible ???? Thanks Ps. I like the new addition to your sig. Jon..... |

Re: Proper clutch ajustment
Your spring could be weak I guess, you may need a new one. on good 4 stroke clutches you shouldn't really be able to move the sheaves back an forth with your hands(make it open), or at least it's really, really hard to do.
I'm not real sure you'll see a hugh improvement running on flat ground. Climbing and pulling is where these mods really shine. |

Re: Proper clutch ajustment
Ok thanks Jon. I think my install is probably ok then. I'll get it out in the wash and hills and try it out. Thanks again
