My 1991 ez-go robin engine back fires when running,What can I do to fix it

I had the same problem with my Yamaha Drive, the engine most likely from my experience needs a carburetor adjustment because it is not completely shutting after the pedal is released. Or the throttle cable needs adjustment. This should help, below.

The throttle valve in not fully closing. I had a broken cable which allowed full throttle all the time. The butterfly must be closed befor spark is cut off.

That was an easy fix. I had an E-Z Go that started backfiring. Had a broken throttle cable. When the cart started it would go full throttle. let off the gas and when the peddle is pressed it would back fire.
