On post #85 he said he used a more expensive DPST relay and dedicated one of the contacts for the same role as the 10 cents diode.

There are different ways to accomplish the task.

You can do it just fine with a spdt relay which is as simple as they get but there are several ways to accomplish this.

I have never done this, but it seems like it would be easy to wire this without a diode. I did see a link that mentioned that when the F/R Goes through neutral, it cuts the power to the key. I could see that as a problem if it was true, but I don't think it is. (I'm not at home right now)

If You do the circuit I posted using the SPST relay, the diode is required.

If You don't use the diode, the reed switch will also carry the load current until the Normally Open contact of the relay settles in the closed position.

On a Series cart it is true.
