Default Middle speeds are jerky or not there

Hi, I have a 1997 48v club car ds. I am new to golf carts. I am not sure how many speeds it has but some don't seem to be working correctly. When pressing the accelerator pedal it seem to have a first speed but then you press a little farther and it is jerky or slows down for possibly the next two speeds. But seems to do ok on the last 2 speeds. Any ideas? Thanks.

You probably have a V-glide (pie shaped black cover) down under the seat towards drivers side. If so, it is a variable speed potentiometer and you need to open it up and inspect the wiper arm and contact pads.

Yes I do have a V Glide. I did pull cover off it looked like it was in pretty good shape. Not even close to the wear line. Looks like the wiper arm is making at least 50% contact with all of the pads. That’s as far as I got. It has a controller also. Don’t know what brand. I just looked to see where it was. Did see it was blue. I did notice there is a plug hanging off of motor but can’t find where it would plug into. Thanks.

There are not really individual “speeds” on that cart. The throttle control acts as a variable potentiometer so you get a smooth transition from no throttle to full throttle. If it’s being jerky it’s because the throttle signal is dropping out.
Blue controller is probably an Alltrax. Get a model number from it. You can probably connect a laptop to it and get some info from the controller to see what’s going on with the throttle input.

Also start at the beginning. Are all of the battery cable terminals clean and tight?

I will check all connections and see if I can get the make and model off of the controller. It does seem to be worse when you first start using it. I just got the cart last week so don’t know a lot about it. Thanks

Lol! You have a Regen 2 cart.... (And 50% contact is not enough for the pads - Check the resistors on the back also.)

Here is a schematic of the Regen 2.

Ok. So adjust the arm to make full contact and try it. That diagram looks like mine except I don’t see a run/tow switch. Do I need to remove the v glide to access the resistors?

What does Regen2 mean anyway? Keep seeing it on here but have no idea?

You don't see a run/tow switch on your cart or on the diagram?

It is on top right of the diagram.

May be a regen 1. Don't know if regen 2 was made in 97?
