Re: 2003 DS Golf Electric Rebuilding
OK I just got done putting 4 AWG welding cable 60 volt through out my car and a Curtis HD Solenoid. I have a stock CC Motor and a Stock Curtis Controller and when i try to go up hill it is slow and feels like a old vibrating washing machine

They will require different parts to improve performance. One thing common to both is installing 2 gauge cables to allow more current to get to the motor. The stock motor controllers limit the motors' access to current to around 250 amps and usually come with 4 gauge cables. Upgraded controllers will allow the motor to get 300, 400 or 500 amps depending on the controller. Other components in the circuit need to be upgraded to handle higher current - cables, solenoid, motor, & FNR switch (I think only for series). |

Like RT said, your AA cart has Series drive system. This uses a series wind motor. You have a big lever for FnR. Series carts are great for work, pulling stuff, steep hills, off road, hunting, etc. You can get a different motor that will give better power and speed, but it will need to be coupled with a higher output controller, and a higher power solenoid. In alot of ways, its a simpler setup. But the stock motors are slow up-hills, and there isn't usually much you can do about that except to upgrade the motor and controller.
Feeling like an old washing machine going uphill, could mean battery voltage is low, or that the brushes in the motor are worn out. The IQ cart is a Sepex Drive system (SEParately EXcited). It uses a Shunt wound motor. It has a small rocker switch for FnR. The Sepex setups are a little bit more efficient in how they use power. |

Re: 2003 DS Golf Electric Rebuilding
Yes it was like this before the cable install. I have not tested it yet with the new cables yet cause I need to make and put 2 more on there all the cables that was stock were 6AWG. before The new cables I would start up a hill with 48 volts or more on the meter and it would pull down to 37 or 38 volt and stop half way up. then when I turn around and run on level ground it back to 48v but still only runs 5 or 6 MPH. I need the power to climb hills not really the speed but would like it to be a little bit faster

Re: 2003 DS Golf Electric Rebuilding
You have a battery problem. With good fully charged batteries Pack voltage should not drop below about 45v when under load. Check each battery 12 hours after a full charge. Each one should be over 8.4v ideally should be at 8.49 or slightly more. Pack voltage overall should be about 50.9v.
Then take the cart out for a drive and check each battery While driving so you can see how far they drop when under load. Any battery going below 8v is suspect, any getting below 7v is toast and needs to be replaced. If the whole pack is more than about 3 years old or has mismatched brands, replace the whole pack. |
