Yamaha G-14 Fuse Blowing/not starting
Hi all! New here! Thought maybe I could get some help working on my Yamaha G-14 Cart...
This year the battery went out so today I replaced the battery...got nothing went I went to press the gas, no click, no sound, nothing. Took the black box off near the battery were the solenoid and checked the 10amp fuse...blown. Replaced it and pressed the gas and it blew withing seconds. I should say I have light installed by the factory as well and they work fine but no motor. I put a larger fuse in, same thing, blown within seconds of pressing the gas pedal. Took a tester and tested wires near the solenoid and pressed the gas. Power to the solenoid on one side but not the other. All other wires have power once the pedal is pressed. Seems something is up with blowing the fuse upon pressing the gas pedal. The cart ran great last year and I just go tit out today to get it going...any ideas as to what to test or look for?? Thanks! |

Re: Yamaha G-14 Fuse Blowing/not starting
Did you install an accessory that you grounded to the frame?
Lights, stereo, power plug, etc..... Yamis dont like things grounded to the frame. Bring a wire back the the negative post on the battery. |

Re: Yamaha G-14 Fuse Blowing/not starting
Everything is ground back to the battery negative post..checked all the wires. I did find the problem after checking wires... I qualify for the "Darwin Award" I do believe...
When putting the new battery in, I reversed the way it went it to make the battery leads more neat but didn't quite do the same when hooking the battery leads up. Yes, that's right I reversed the negative and positive...causing the fuse to blow each time the pedal was pressed!! Yes, stupid me! Luckily blowing the fuse stop any serious damage I could have done.... Fixed the battery the right way, checked my wires twice...the cart runs fine now!!! So I appreciated any response....and now you can have fun at my expense!!!LOL |

Re: Yamaha G-14 Fuse Blowing/not starting
I can't believe I am going to admit this but I did something worse and can't believe I didn't blow mine up. After running my battery dead by leaving my lights on, you guessed it.... I hooked the charger up as you would a car.
I am now in the process of trying to figure out what I fried. The battery is holding a great charge but I can't keep the fuse from blowing. Any suggestions for someone that had a complete lapse of brain activity for a few short seconds and is kicking himself in the butt because he now has to carry hay a couple hundred yards to his horses. Guess thats the price I have to pay for being a Darwin Award winner. |

Re: Yamaha G-14 Fuse Blowing/not starting
I started to disconect items to trouble shoot my problem. I disconnected the accelerator stop switch, the voltage reg, and the engine stop relay. I used a test light and I am getting power to both of the two small posts on the solenoid. With this being said, I believe that I blew the solenoid. Thanks for the help.
