I wanted to isolate the lights. When unloading the boat, I leave them on. I just bought this cart used and I am unsure of the condition of the batteries as it is. So far so good, but they are not new.

Im with you PEMBROKE36 I always add a 12 volt battery rather than take off one or two batterys of a total pack as this causes an unbalanced pack and unless you keep moving battery taps off different batterys you end up with 2 weak batterys and possibly damage the others by overcharging.
I use a handicapped scooter battery the same as I use in my own personal handicapped scooter. They are more than $50.00 now but are sealed and very compact like a motor cycle battery so for awhile I just threw mine in passenger glove box until I mounted it over front suspension, but being made for deep discharge rather than a starter battery I only have to charge mine 2 times a month when used heavily.
The main reason I like a higher amp hour rated battery is because I like most cart owners keep adding to the loads? I now have lights, brake lights, turn signals, radio, horn, overhead fan. I did switch all my lights to LED as it cuts the draw by over 3/4ths.
