G16 Idles, but won't run without choke
Okay...new cart to me....first cart ever.
'99 G16 that idles great. Has a brand new carb on it (prior owner) and it will idle, but when you accelerate, nothing happens. If you keep the accelerator depressed, you can use the choke as if it is the accelerator. It will also sometimes backfire upon start up and shut down. I thought the gas might be bad, or the carb dirty (even though it was new), so I drained the gas and pulled the carb off and cleaned it, making sure it wasn't gummed up. Still having issues. Any ideas? |

Have you pulled the fuel line at the carb and checked for a good stream of gas?

Thought it might be the float not adjusted correctly in the carb, but it does it right off the bat even after the carb bowl would've filled up. How would I figure out if the fuel pump is pumping enough fuel with it being vacuum actuated? |

You can try and blow it out, but I would spring for a new one so you can eliminate that as the problem. Make sure your airbox is sealed up tight.

I would put an inline clear filter on, then you can see whats taking place.

Re: G16 Idles, but won't run without choke
Well...went out and messed around with it. Took the air filter out and it wasn't too bad. Took the foam off and made sure it sealed well inside the housing and to the carb. No better.
Unhooked the filter housing from the carb and wa la....seemed to run much better. So...without the filter on there, seems to run alright. With the filter housing on their, bogs down and just idles. |
