Wow! I didn't know they were that expensive! I'd look around for a better price. i thought they were about $62.00.

I've run my cart to top rpm about every time I ever used it since '99, never touched the VR, so I would not worry about it.

Thanks for all your help here. I ended up buying one from the yamaha dealer today, as I needed to get it in before I put the body back on. $95.00. New VR solved the problem. 14.2 max volts to battery at full power. No more boiling.

Interesting conversation with yamaha cart mechanic today. He said a bad VR can make the engine run like crap. Not sure why. Guys have idea's why that would be?

Does it have a rectifier in it? I don't recall if the generator puts out AC or DC on the charge circuit. Some things the rectifier goes bad and it puts AC voltage into the system. Its possible the ignitor would not like that.

Maybe to much voltage to the CDI? Pushing 17 volts...not good.

I noticed when I fixed my generator and the volts were at 19 with a bad VR it ran poor too. I thought that was strange but did not look into it for fear of having to buy another part!!LOL!

Bg, I never seen a G1, but if you search "belt replacement" in the search feature at the top on this page, it should help you. Also start your own thread next time, and you'll get more help.
Welcome Mike
