PDS Run Time
Helped a friend install a Jakes long travel lift with 24 inch tires on a stock 2002 PDS and it totally wiped out the power and run time. We are looking for the cheapest way to get the power back to around stock and increase the run time to close to normal levels? We really don't have the cash to do a 48 volt upgrade. The terrain is mostly flat trails through the woods. This morning he drove for approximately 25 minutes with a volt meter hooked up with just him in the cart (170LBS) starting voltage was 36.4 at full throttle on level pavement it was averaging 33.2 to 34 volts.. After about 25 minutes running voltage was down to about 28 volts at speed and 35 not moving. None of the batteries or connections were heating up but the box with the tow/run switch(controller I believe) was slightly warm to the touch. The batteries are K of 07.
Are the batteries shot or do we need to upgrade the controller? Anyone have an idea? |

Re: PDS Run Time
24s on a stock PDS controller isn't gonna last long. I would go ahead and start budgeting for the 400 amp Alltrax or detune the 500 and look at doing a motor upgrade as well.
I to am looking at the long travel just for the smoother ride and independent suspension for the front. Also the system comes ready for front disk upgrade down the road. |

Re: PDS Run Time
You have a highly modified chassis that needs a highly modified drivetrain. There is no cheap way to do this, and your first step should be a high quality NEW battery pack with new 2g welding cables. After the pack is broken-in, reasses your performance and be prepared to throw money at it. The 24" tires are killing the pack.

Re: PDS Run Time
I would say that your batteries are shot. Like everyone else said after you get batteries and cables replaced you better be prepared and saving for that controller because it will fail due to thermal overload most likely

Re: PDS Run Time
The tire size is a little extreme, but a new set of batteries would be good.Just make sure you get good ones. Also on a PDS car you can re-chip it to maybe a medium hill which is the yellow one and that might help out.You need to reprogram that chip and it is easy, takes 5 seconds-just ask?
