97 EZGO DCS versus PDS Systems
Hello...wanted quick opinion from the pros on purchasing a PDS versus a DCS electric EZ GO. Use will be around the farm, want to get the most durable and maintenance free system...is there a difference?
Thanks BP |

Re: 97 EZGO DCS versus PDS Systems
I'm not a Pro, but I am opinionated.
If the choice is between a PDS and a DCS, I'd go with the PDS. The DCS controller has a reputation of failing if the battery voltage gets too low. If it was a good design, it wouldn't have been replaced with the PDS. However, replacing it with an aftermarket controller when (if) it fails, solves that problem. For use on a farm, a series cart would probably be better. PDS controllers are designed for well groomed, relatively level cart paths on golf courses. Series carts (Series wound motor) are the ones most people use for off-road and hauling applications. I have a PDS and I'm happy with it since it suits my purposes, wants and needs, but I know what its abilities and limitations are and don't exceed them. |

Scotty, thanks for the info. so does the DCS have the "series" motor you mentioned and where would you recommend getting a new controller for a DCS?
Thanks again BP |

No. Like the PDS, the DCS has a Sepex (SEParately EXcited or Shunt wound) motor rather than the series wound type. Scottyb does have upgrade kits for DCS carts. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/ You can also find controllers and stuff just about any of the site Sponsor's websites. If you do buy the DCS cart and the controller fails I suggest swapping it all over to a series cart. The F/R on the DCS is what I call a Mickey mouse setup along with the issues with the controller. I just did a DCS to PDS swap but I had all the parts for the swap. Should be much better now once I get the seats all installed.

Re: 97 EZGO DCS versus PDS Systems
I purchased a 1997 EZGO cart. I think its a 36 volt?? It has no batteries and the speed controller looks like someone took a screw driver to it. Can you tell me if it is a 36 volt and the give me the part number for the controller?

It should say DCS on the side if it's a DCS, if not, its just a series |

Re: 97 EZGO DCS versus PDS Systems
2010 EZGO went 48V for the txt carts and 2008 48V for the RXV carts.
what does your f-n-r switch look like. if it has a silver backing (hockey puck look) than is dcs, if it has a lever going over to the pass side than its a series cart. |
