need help with motor and controller upgrade
1. I installed a new 500 amp contoller and motor from D and D Motor Systems yesterday. The diode on the new solenoid keeps blowing? Is it possible I have a wire wrong? the LED lights up and flashes the correct code for the programming and stays on like its suppose to.
2. Do I need a new F and R switch? What will it do if I dont change it? 3. Nothing fits in the factory cover to keep it dry. What do I need to do or do I need to worry about? D and D said is was water proof, but not to hit it with high pressure. Thanks for the help |

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Do you mean it blew up, and you replaced it, and that blew up as well? How do you know it's "blown"? Sometimes specificity helps in diagnosing problems.

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Yes, I've replaced it twice. I know it's blowing bc as soon as I hit the gas it turns beat red and the diode smokes and cracks into.

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Leave the diode off for now, does the solenoid click?
It sounds like they are lacking in install instructions & tech support |

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Which terminals on the solenoid is the diode connected to? The large terminals or the smaller ones?

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Ok, tried it without the diode. Yes, it clicks and the cart is trying to go. Should I take it for a spin. I'm afraid I'm gonna burn something up if I take off for a quick ride. What do you think? Thanks for the help

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Diodes ARE polarity sensitive and will burn up if installed backwards. There should be a silver band on one end of the diode, this end should go to the POSITIVE side of the small terminals on the solenoid.

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Ok. That makes since. From looking at the way I put them on they were backwards. I'll get a new one tomorrow and try it again. Thanks so much for your help

Re: need help with motor and controller upgrade
Just tried the new diode (silver band on the. Positive side) and smoked it. Is it possible that the solenoid has a built in diode. Because is works like a champ without the diode and nothing is getting hot nor you can't smell anything getting hot.
