Hi this cart i just picked up has no compression. Is there a compression release valve on these carts that might be stuck?or is the rings gone.Is it worth fixing and is it a hard job? Thanks

Re: 1983 carryall no compression..
I'd do a compression check. First dry then wet (pour a tablespoon of oil in the cylinder)
If low dry and better wet, its rings. If no change dry or wet, its valves. |

No compression relief valve. I've had a few of these motors apart. They're pretty simple. It may be just a head gasket. I thought 1984 was the first year for gas motors in Club Cars.

Re: 1983 carryall no compression..
I can just pull the cylinder/head and leave the motor in the cart right?

Re: 1983 carryall no compression..
You can pull the head while it's still in the cart, but the motor comes out pretty easy. If it were me I'd just pull it and do everything on the bench. I don't know how old you are or how strong you are, but I can unhook and lift my KF82 motor out of my cart myself in 20 minutes or so.

Re: 1983 carryall no compression..
Just be sure to unhook everything (linkages, wires, etc) and unbolt the four bolts on the plate that the motor sits on. The motor will come out on the plate. The main drive belt between the clutches can be taken off with no tools, it should be loose enough to just pull it off by hand. The first time I took mine out I took pictures of it all around to make sure I put everything back correctly. If you have any issues I'll either tell you what goes where or show you pics of mine.
Just to be sure, is this what your motor looks like? This is the KF82 motor used in gas Club Cars from 1984 (your 1983 maybe?) through 1991. |
