Default Air filter removed and runs bad.... What about k&n?

So I pulled out the really dirty air filter left by the po. Tried running it without the filter to see if there had been any performance loss due to the dirty filter. Cart ran like crap. I assume that means I would need to change jet sizes to fix that.
Went to my FLAPS yesterday to get tuneup stuff and noticed I can get a k&n for about $30. If I add that will I have to re jet too or will it run ok with just the filter upgrade?

Thanks guys!

yes, now it has more air which makes it lean, richen up via drilling jets step by step and plug reading.
anything that makes it have more air, via a better filter or no filter will require a rejet to be correct.

Kawasaki engines are really finicky about their fuel/air ratio and it'll run like cr*p w/o an air filter!
even using a K&N filter (#33-2022 to replace the existing in the air box) will make it run poorly w/o rejetting!

so... either replace the air filter with stock, or a K&N filter and rejet...

it's your call!

Thanks guys. I just went with a stock paper filter for now. I'll upgrade with new jet next time.

Next question.....

Was having the oil light come on at higher rpm. I changed the oil out and used 5w30 full synthetic. Runs nice and smooth and the light does not come on now. But...
While running it for a couple of min straight at higher rpm it ran out of fuel. Just seemed to flatten out and then loose power. I coasted down to lower speed and after sputtering a little it got going again. Works fine until I run it wide open for a couple of min.

When I changed the fuel filters out today I noticed that they did not refill very quickly. I can barely see the flow of fuel passing through the hose from the fuel pump. Shouldn't the pump put out a pretty steady stream of gas? Both fuel filters are still only about 1/2 full of gas and don't get any fuller even at WOT. I already checked the pulse line. It is clean and clear.

Tired worn out fuel pump maybe?

Neither of my fuel filters are even half full

The fuel pump really doesn't "spit" fuel like you'd expect it to!
With my cart, the filter from the tank to the pump only stays 1/2 full,
and the filter from the pump to the carb stays almost 99% full all the time.
Give it a week or so for gravity and pump pressure to work out some of the air in the 2nd filter!

You can check the vent screen on the front of the fuel pump for dust and debris,
(you've already checked that the pulse line to the pump and made sure it's clear of oil. )
If they're still not filling up normally after that, then you could consider rebuilding/replacing the pump!

Copy that. I'll run it hard again today and see what happens. If it starts to stall again I'll hop out and check fuel filter levels. If that checks out, I'll move on to checking other stuff like carb float bowl etc.

Thanks.

I'd suggest running it at part throttle rather then WOT for a while, (a day or two)
It just may help the pump fill up the lines and filters!

Ran it all day today under various conditions. The problem has not repeated itself. Filters are still not filling up completely but all seems ok.

Thanks
