Question 1990 - 1991 excite coil fit 1984-1989 engine

I have an 85 club car with a bad coil. The coil has been discontinued and I can't find it anywhere for a reasonable price. I am wondering if it is possible to put the excite coil and ignition coil from a 90 - 91 club car on to my 85?

The exciter coil assembly should work fine but the ignition coil may not. I've been trying to find out what change they made to the 1990-91 coil that makes it incompatible as a replacement for the 1989 and older KF82 motors. Nobody seems to have an answer one way or the other...surely if it's just a wiring or a plug issue there could be a workaround or some kind of splice that can be made in order to retrofit the newer coil to the older motor.

Springbok, that from seems to be a huge issue and I know it is for myself with my 89 with new rings and pistons and in great shape is just sitting now! This has to be the ultimate question for those of us with these classics.

I have looked all over the web and even talked with mechanics lately who advise either just start buying old DS's, and eventually I'll find one that works, or put a newer motor in and adapt everything.

Type I VWs (air cooled Beetles) haven't been available for nearly 30 years, but you can find just about anything for them because there is a demand. I just wonder why no one has answered the call for parts for these old motors.

Question Re: 1990 - 1991 excite coil fit 1984-1989 engine

If the excite coil from a 1990 would fit an 89, wouldn't the 90 coil have to work with the 90 excite coil?

I talked to a guy today who knows carts and he says it will work. Just won't be as good as the original coil.
