i will just tap a ground from the harness in the dash area.
If you were mounting your battery in the back, the best route is to run positive to where the blue wire connects to the controller and run ground to that spot as well. Then anything behind the dash doesn't have to be touched. That's how mine is done and my lights and stereo work great as wired to the dash wiring and oem light harness.
