Default 97 EZGO electric Cart - wont move

While driving our 1997 EZGO electric golf cart yesterday, we stopped to reverse and the cart would no longer move. It appears the F/R switch is working as we hear a clicking noise when we move it back & forth. ( It has the 18" bar under the seat from the F/R lever to the switch )

Batteries had little use after a full charge but we charged overnight again just in case. I have about 38.X volts in the batteries.

Horn works, lights work but no movement forward or reverse. Stepping on the pedal gives me nothing as if key was in the off position.

First golf cart and with limited technical knowledge, we are having a problem getting it to work again.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Welcome to BGW!

From your description you have a Series style cart. Give each battery cable a good tug to see if one of them is marginal. Also, does the reverse alarm still work correctly? Are the four cables leading to the motor in good condition? Tug on those too.

All wires seem tight. Nothing moves or appears loose on any of the connections. All connections on batteries and around the solenoid are clean and corrosion free.

The reverse alarm ground wire was never connected but when I ground it, it does beep. Seems like it should be a little louder but definitely works.

I've seen questions about the reverse alarm working while googling the problem. Why does everyone always seem to ask that question? What is the confirming ( Or not confirming? )

In a series cart like yours, it lets us know B+ exists on the jumper wire between the two microswitches on the F/R assembly.
For DCS carts, it lets us know B+ is being applied to one side of the solenoid coil.
For PDS carts, it lets us know the controller is at least partially alive and confirms the existence on B+ at several of the needed places.

I re-read your first post. I'm not sure if you are saying the solenoid is clicking (Clunking) when the pedal is pushed.
If the solenoid is clicking, the problem is in the High Current circuit.
If it isn't, the problem is in the solenoid activation circuit.

The click seems to be coming from the F/R switch when I move it back and forth.

I do not hear any clicks from the solenoid.

When I turn the key on and step on the pedal, there is nothing as if the cart is turned off.

Here is a schematic with the solenoid activation circuit highlighted.

Since the beeper sounds when F/R is in reverse (And the ground wire is connected), there is voltage to the jumper wire between the two microswitches on the F/R assemble, so that leaves MS-2 itself, the Keyswitch and the Pedal switch, the pedal switch being the most likely suspect.

There is a four pin in-line connector in the wire loom going to the pedal box, that is a good place to check for voltage going to/from pedal switch.

If the beeper stops when the pedal is pushed, something isn't wired correctly.
Microswitch MS-4 on the F/R assembly controls the beeper and it ought to stay on as long as the F/R is in the Reverse position.

In a series cart, the voltage on all microswitches is full battery pack voltage.

Download the service manual. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...g-manuals.html

The ITS testing for a series cart starts on page E-13.
