Default ezgo 36v throttle issue

Hey guys back again.. I have the 1984 ezgo 36v cart. got it going good now except for a small throttle issue, when I accelerate it goes fine till I get just over half throttle and its like a dead spot till you get to almost wide open then it takes off fast and goes fine again.. I have cleaned the round contact pads with fine emery cloth and made no difference.. I didn't want to just start throwing parts at it blindly and hope to get the right one.. any ideas for me? thanks so much..

I take it this is a resistor cart. Bad resistor?

A resistor drive Marathon has 4 speeds.
There are three resistor coils in series with the motor at the first or lowest speed, two is series for the second speed, one in series for the third speed and none in the fourth or highest speed.

If the cart runs normally in the lower speed or speeds and in the highest speed, either the stationary contacts are bad, or the cables between the stationary contacts and the resistor coils are bad.
