yea you can do the 2x6v = 12v battery configuration .. i'd change batteries used every couple months

I did as crashed mentioned for several years with really no problems, but finally broke down & installed an converter. Really does help with maintaining the batteries to not pull on only two over the life of the batteries. Not really noticeable until the batteries begin to reach older age.
