Battery cable puzzle
Sooooo, I ordered a new Bandit motor for my 2003 DS Series 48v cart. I am going to buy a new cable set for it. 2-4 gauge not sure yet. But that is not my question. My question is that neither 2-4 gauge wires fit thru the computer hole (see photo). I was told that you just leave stock cable there and run the bigger wire to the controller using both. Is this correct? Any thoughts?
Thanks, Mike |

Re: Battery cable puzzle
Some people have had trouble with the OBC disliking dual cables - the charge cycle gets messed up and batteries end up repeatedly undercharged. Make/buy/use the stud.

Re: Battery cable puzzle
Lightbulb came on. Scotty told me about the OBC. I must have missed the diagram.
So should I go with 2 or 4 gauge? Mike |

If you go with 2 you won't be asking yourself later if you should have.

Re: Battery cable puzzle
I seem to recall that Series carts benefit the greatest from 2 ga. Whereas Sepex (Regen/IQ) carts (for some electrical reason that a smart guy like Sergio could probably explain) don't experience as much benefit between 2 ga. and 4 ga.

Re: Battery cable puzzle
no need to go technical on me a series cart has twice as many high current cables (armature+field) and unless you have a nice reverse contactor by the motor, most of those cables are a lot longer too.
Personally I would say it is easy to justify 2ga cable for a series cart, especially by the time you add your manual labor. |
