Re: Positive Battery terminal Sparks when I press the Accelerator
This is really off the wall but is there a chance that battery is in backward?

Might be time to take her to the local EZGO shop? It's near impossible to post electrical repairs without "seeing" what you have. You really need to post some pictures

Re: Positive Battery terminal Sparks when I press the Accelerator
Alright guys thank you very much for the help. unfortunately there are no ez-go shops around the central coast, CA. that I know of. But I've got my own shop right here, I just needed a little push in the right direction. Since everyone seemed to think that it was the cable, I concentrated on that first. After putting a new end on the cable and heat wrapping it still didn't work I didn't know what to do. Then I realized the sparks are only coming from where you can see the metal showing at the end of the cable. I pulled out my trust electrical tape and wrapped that bad boy up super tight and voila! No SPARKS!! I guess sometimes it is the little things that matter... with all the metal on the wire covered completely there are no more sparks flying and my cart works great once again... thanks again guys....
Now I'm just waiting on my t-145's :):):) |

Re: Positive Battery terminal Sparks when I press the Accelerator
Wait! Sparks do not FLY OUT as much as they FLY TO something .... are we to believe that the electricity was simply flying out of the bare spot in the wire? And once confined it was fine....... I think it was shorting out to a grounded battery case or some problem that may still exists

I'm still waiting on some pictures. I'll bet it's still sparking underneath the tape?

Re: Positive Battery terminal Sparks when I press the Accelerator
I think that you still have a problem. You don't by any chance have any grounding or power running through the frame do you??? (big NO NO)
Just insulating the end of the cable might stop the sparks for now, but the potential for trouble is still there. If everything is correct, you should be able to leave every cable end on the cart naked and still have no arcing. Take your volt meter and check that you have no voltage either positive or negative running through the frame. Carts are not like cars, everything must have its own separate ground . Good Luck! |

Re: Positive Battery terminal Sparks when I press the Accelerator
After I taped it up I took it for a good 20 minute drive and then checked the wire and the tape was still completely intact, not melted or anything, so I don't think it's still sparking underneath. And I know its completely unheard of for wires to just spark like they were... and I really don't understand it either. All I know is when the wires weren't completely covered I got sparks flying off and melting wires, and the cart wouldn't move either. but when it's covered the sparks are gone and it moves. I know this is really weird...
