89 GXT1500 restoration project parts source?
Hey Guys, I'm new to the club and not really even a member.
I'm the autoshop teacher at the local high school who's "inherited" a long forsaken EZ-GO cart. It's in rough shape to say the least. Keys are missing, batteries dead -positive post actually pulled straight out, fuel is gummy ect.... I was able to get it to crank after bypassing the ignition switch and accelerator "limit" switch then moving the gear selector to either Forward or Reverse. The fuel is laquered, pump shot, carb shot, but it slightly sputtered on some squirts of ether. Long story short, I need to source a couple parts/kits to get this thing alive. The schools plans are to (after/if it gets running) paint it and use it in their D.A.R.E. program. So, I need a carb kit, a fuel pump kit, limit switch, and possible a repair manual? I'll buy a ign switch from NAPA. Serial Number is: 001026 Comes up as a 1989 Gas GXT1500 utility vehicle. Thanks in advance! Nate in PA |

No compression.
Now what? Is there a flapper valve in the crank case that may be stuck open or is this a port style 2 stroke? Anyone have a spare working engine? |

There is a reed valve plate between the carb and the crank case. The exhaust is a port on the cylinder and the intake comes through the crank case and up through multiple ports in the cylinder walls.
No compression could simply be a blown out head gasket, which would be my first thing to look into. Check out the base gasket as well to be sure. These engines are pretty durable and it is somewhat hard to kill one unless you overheat it and seize it up tight or throw the rod through the case. Look at the small things first, then move on to bigger things. Keep us updated and goodluck! |
