1999 Club Car questions

Yes I am new to the golf cart world & I have just traded for an electric 1999 Club Car I assume is a DS, it is a 48 volt system.

My question is that the previous owner had replaced the six 8 volt batteries with four 12 volt batteries and I have read that this will kill your run time, I am planning to make this a hunting cart with a lift & bigger tires, but should I first replaced the batteries with 8 volt?

And what other mods should I make, 2ga or 4 ga cables? any and all advise is appreicated.

And as always this on a limited budget.

Also I need advise on charging the batteries if I leave the cart at my deer lease how and when should I charge the batteries, sorry for

the "dumb" questions but I am uneducated in the electric golf cart world.

Are the (4) 12 volt batteries the "Deep Cycle Marine" variety? Or are they 12 volt Golf Cart batteries?

(6) 8 volt batteries would be best, 4 ga cables = better (than 6 ga), 2 ga = best.

Personally, I am not a fan of driving away from a plugged in cart with no supervision. Others do it all the time with no issue. That's just me.

batteries should be charged every two weeks when not used ..

I read somewhere the automatic chargers should turn on when lower than full charge is detected. Sounds like most people may not leave them hooked up though? Sounds logical there could be dangers.

most "golf cart" chargers don't have a float function.. a DPI charger does

not sure if they are 12 volt marine or golf cart batteries, I will check when I get home.

also what do I need for a little more speed it is only going around 8-9 mph on flat ground, or did I ned to change the batteries out first?

I have read about putting a 36 volt motor in a 48 volt cart will increase speed, pros & cons of this.

the 12 volt batteries don't have any fill caps, does that mean that they are marine batteries?

then should I put the 6 8 volt batteries on it?

more than likely they are .. i would go with the 8 volt batteries

this will do the trick as far as a maintainer, go with the 8 volts
