Default 1982 DS battery drain

Did a forum search (And Google) and haven't found this situation anywhere.
1982 CC DS; 36 volt. 2014 Interstate batteries. Cables are all clean and tight.
Charges fine with the Lester charger. After and hour or 2, batteries are at 38.2 volts or so on a Fluke meter. Can drive it a while and all is good. If I park it and leave it sit for a week or 2, the batteries are drained. Down to 20 volts for the 6 of them. Not good. I have the wiring diagram and everything looks right. Key out, F-R switch in neutral. No lights

Any ideas? I am going to put a battery disconnect in there for now before these new batteries are trashed.

Thank you!

Do you have a voltage reducer on the cart?

that's not good
you should have 38.3v after 12hr rest not after 2 hours charge
you are reading a service charge
.. put charger on them and let charge til charger shuts off or if it's a timer charger set it to 12hrs ... then take reading after 12hrs rest
post reading and each batteries volts

No, I don't believe there is a voltage reducer.

OK, I will charge them and give the 12 hour stats. It's an auto shutoff Lestronic.

Thanks

After a few days of testing, I am still lost. I charged the cart until the Lestronic kicked off, let it sit for 8 hours, and it was down to approx 33 volts. Charged it up again, then disconnected the last battery ground cable, let it sit for 8 hours, and the voltage was 37.6v on my Fluke meter. The 4 outer batteries each are right at 6.35v. The 2 inner batteries are at 6.1v.... Kind of strange.

Something is discharging it...So,.... When I pulled the battery cable, I heard a click. With the key off and the F/R switch in neutral, the middle solenoid clicks and stays engaged when the batteries are connected. Disconnect/connect a ground cable and the middle (3rd) solenoid clicks. What the heck is causing that?

I think my charger is cutting off just a bit too soon, too. This DS is all stock, and mostly original.

Thanks for the help.

Bob

Sounds like a welded solenoid

You have a switch that is not opening when it should maybe even key switch. That's my guess.

CCfanatic: If I loosen the ground cable from the end battery, and touch/remove it from the battery post, the solenoid clicks. If it was "welded", why would it click? And even worse, what is sending power to it without the key on?

Mr. Golf: The key switch works fine. The cart still runs OK.

In that little rectangular box on the drivers side frame rail with red end caps, there are five micro switches which send power to the five solenoids. Check your middle one for being stuck.

Are there any extra wires on the 2 inner batteries, Other than the big ones. I'm thinking maybe the power for the accessories is being taken off of those 2 batteries. Post a picture of the battery compartment if you can. No telling what that cart has been through in the last 32 years. :)
