No pull
I wrote this post yesterday but apparently it went to a black hole in cyberspace.
Since the post was very long I'll take a more direct route this time in case this one disappears. Cart: 94 DS in like new condition. Problem: no torque and acceleration. (have to take a run at the trailer to load it and cables from F/R switch become so hot they cannot be touched after a couple minutes run time). Particulars: New Trojans-new battery interconnect cables, seem to be 4Ga.,-stock cables from F/R switch. Cart will run 25mph with windshield removed and no wind on a flat, smooth surface. I have 2Ga. welding cable to make up new runs from the F/R switch but before I install I would like to find an answer to my situation. I have four other DS carts at my work place ranging from 96 to 00 and they have all stock cables and generic batteries and none of them exhibit this pattern. However they all top out at about 12-13mph. Could someone with specific knowledge on this subject please shed some light? Thanks, in advance |

Re: No pull
Hot cables could be loose connections. Also with the speed you are talking about it could have high speed gears. At any rate all your cables are no larger than the smallest one. It will be a bottleneck.

Re: No pull
Is there evidence in the serial number as to the gear ratio?

Re: No pull
No. Without opening some things it is not that easy to tell.
Lots of things could cause the problem you are having. It could also something in the way the batteries are connected. It is possible to only have 5 of the batteries in the circuit. These guys here are pretty good at finding problems from looking at good photos. |

Re: No pull
Bottleneck in cable size and/or poor contact being made in F/R switch...

Re: No pull
I'll check the F/R switch next but how the hell is this thing going 25mph?

Re: No pull
Sounds like it has high speed gears which would explain the lack of torque for going up the ramp and if the cables are undersize or you have poor contact that will still allow it to build a head of steam if given enough room but it will produce a lot of heat at or near the bottleneck...

The cables are not "undersize" but are stock. |
