Default Club Car just quit!

Have a 1990 gas club car that was just given to me. Had a problem from the start. At first when the gas peddle was depressed there was a hesitation maybe 3-9 seconds during which there was a whine, then the engine would turn over and it would run fine. I charged the battery thinking it was low voltage not allowing the starter to turn over. When fully charged it still had a hesitation and whine prior to turning over and once turned over the cart would run fine. I lifted the seat up and you could see the pully turn approx 1/2 inch and then there was a whine for approx. the same amount of time and then it would turn over and run fine. Then i got onto the cart and now NOTHING!....
There is "no click" from the solenoid, and the battery is fully charged. Is the starter/generator bad?

The whine lends me to believe the starter was going bad and finally gave in, but im no expert. All replies are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

could be the generator or the voltage regulator not charging the battery and giving the weak starter generator.......not sure on the whine part though

First off...Check the S/G belt for wear, if it's too loose, the starter will spin but the engine won't,
or if it's too tight, nothing will turn over at the compression stage, the S/G will whine, and the fuse will blow.

Next... There's a 10 amp fuse is in the black box, in the engine compartment,
just below the drivers butt, remove the bolt(s) that holds the cover on,
and you'll see it, most likely it blew when you continued to try to get it started,
It's normal for the fuse to do that, so, replace the fuse, and adjust the S/G belt!

(been there... done that!)

Hope this helps, and welcome to BGW!

Well i bought a new solenoid and changed it out. checked every wire on the cart and found a ground that had come loose from the frame. Took the carb loose cleaned all the connections(it needed it) put it all back together, changed the battery. Figured out you were right, the belt is loose and that is whats causing the hesitation/whine. It is old and needs to be replaced. The starter is spinning and it takes a second for the belt to catch turning the motor over. Now there is no spark coming from the plug. everything turns over, compression seems fine just not attempting to fire off. Could something have shorted out when the gound come loose?. It also seems one of the micro switches (one by solenoid) is bad and needs to be replaced. Now when the key is turned on the cart starts turning over without the gas being pushed????? Had to just put it up for the night, was getting to frustrated..... Any further help would be great... Thanks in advance.

Your cart is is out of adjustment. Might I suggest reading the stickies at the top of the page ? Get it right before seeking further assistance, it's so hard to know the exact cause of your problem with such vague details.

Got it fixed!

It was the micro switches. Replaced them and now things run great. Tightened the s/g belt and the old cart seems to be running fine. Thanks for the assistance.
