is there a difference in the driven clutches of the 96 and older club car than the 97 and newer club cars?

Re: driven clutch
The direction of rotation changed from counter clockwise to clockwise.
For the driven to open, the ramps have to be set the proper direction for rotation. |

Re: driven clutch
No, the assembled driven clutches would not be interchangeable.

Re: driven clutch
they are interchangeable you just either have to a: use the correct preload spring for your application or b: replace it with the aftermarket power spring. the ramps are the same profile either direction. some may try to argue this but i can confirm. my driven clutch went out in my 91 ds, i purchased a 97+ driven clutch took the spring out and replaced it with the power spring from carts parts plus. been working just fine for over a year.
