Power in Reverse/Little Power in Forward
FINALLY, the beast roared to life. Cart(1979 HD Model D)goes fine in F & R when on jacks and fine in R on the road, but little or no power in F on the ground. Thought I saw a similiar thread....but I can't find it?? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, X |

Re: Power in Reverse/Little Power in Forward
Things you could try.. You could "play" with the timing (move the plate that holds the points and condensor "slightly" left or right) till it runs (revs up) better in forward. The reason...The starter is the generator in forward and it "drags down" the rpm if not timed correctly. I also recommend useing points and a condensor from a Chevy p/u 6 cylinder, if you'd like I could get the part #'s. Aftermarket points and condensor's are made in china and there junk! I really don't work on Harley's to much any more and have forgoten most tricks, sorry. Good luck Dave

Re: Power in Reverse/Little Power in Forward
With a little luck I am right behind you on this "big event". Regarding the suggestion on points, I was also advised that the condensers are not as good as they once were. Apparently since they have farmed out all of the manufacturing to China the quality has gone away. The guidance I got was to install 2. I have not yet figured out whether the second will fit under the cover or not but plan to do this in the next week or so. I will let you know how it goes.....

Re: Power in Reverse/Little Power in Forward
Check your compression in F and R if there is a large difference you may need rings or more.
